Hello my friends!! It has been a while since I put anything here. No . . . I did not die, and no horrible calamity occurred! I have suffered a series of small issues, starting with my 4TB external hard drive suffering an internal equipment error (which meant all of my photo files were inaccessible). You can only imagine what it has been like to rebuild all of the files from the past four and half months of road trip. Not a simple undertaking.
I have visited the Grand Canyon decades ago when traveling east to west with five of my children. I was between commands and two of my youngest had never met their grandparents, so on a whim, over their Christmas break, we piled into the minivan and headed for California. Along the way, which was a five-day adventure, we stopped at least once each day to see something or somewhere new . . . and one of the side trips was to the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. Some place in my mountain of old Polaroids, there is a group photo of the kids, smiling and standing on the edge of the canyon. One of my favorite photographs!

I wish I had spent more time in and around the Grand Canyon. If you plan to visit the Park, make your plans and reservations early . . . months early. I wanted to go on a mule ride into the canyon, but they are booked almost a year in advance. If you want to camp in the park, do not think that you can simply drive in and find a spot, the Park books up almost six months in advance.
Additionally, I truly recommend that, if you can, you start your visit to the Canyon before sunrise. Sunrise comes early across the canyon and if you do not stay in the Park, it is a long drive to get up to the rim. Sunrise is just simply fascinating to watch as the light spreads across the land, slowly penetrating down into the deep valleys and gorges.
So . . . I am home and this journey has ended . . . but I am already planning my next adventure (this time with two of my granddaughters). I have a lot more photos to share of some remaining wonderful National Parks I visited, so please keep checking in as I get them finished!
Thank you for following me and I have appreciated your comments!
Matt
