I was wrong! The name is pronounced NEW-FOUND-LAND, not the Americanized and slurred “New-Fund-land”! Sorry . . . Lynn and Mark were right! LOL Takes your licks and move on!

Also, Newfoundlanders are not “Newfies” as a Nova Scotian told me. About half of the Newfoundlanders find that term derogatory, hence I will call the people of Newfoundland “Newfoundlanders” and their giant furry dogs “Newfies.”

Newfoundlanders also have a sense of humor. The one-dollar Canadian coin is called a “loonie” and the two-dollar Canadian coin is called a “twoonie”!! I was told this when I was getting change yesterday for the laundromat!! LOL
